Nylon (Polyamide, PA)

Nylon is the most widely specified engineering plastic for general industrial use, balancing strength, toughness, and moderate cost. What's the difference between cast and extruded nylon?
Cast nylon is typically used for larger parts and offers better dimensional stability in thick sections; extruded nylon is more consistent for smaller, precision-machined components.
Is nylon suitable for food contact?
Specific food-grade formulations are manufactured to meet FDA requirements — general industrial nylon grades are not food-contact suitable.
Does nylon absorb moisture?
Yes — nylon can absorb up to several percent of its weight in moisture, which affects dimensional tolerances. This should be factored into precision part design.
